| Knitting With Wire |

| Pat is a talented Textile Artist who has many unique pieces of work displayed in local galleries in the West Country. You will be working with very fine wire that is suitable for knitting. By adding beads and fine knitting yarns it is possible to get very interesting textures making 3D pieces suitable for bracelets, necklaces and brooches. Pat will teach the basics so that you can get used to knitting with wire. It should be possible to finish a bracelet during the course of the day�s workshop. |

| Modular (Mitred Squares) Knitting |

| Modular knitting or mitred squares is a great patchwork technique recently seen in 'Vogue Knitting' and the books by Horst Schultz. Squares are joined together as you knit so there are no seams to sew and stunning colour effects are created using one yarn at a time. You will knit a sample using the basic square and be able to use this as the base for a bigger project. |

| Learn how to write a pattern for a casual stocking stitch sweater using your own measurements. You can either bring along a tension square already worked in a yarn you want to use or you can write the pattern for any standard thickness of yarn eg.DK, aran, chunky etc. We will be using simple maths (mainly multiplication in this workshop. I will give individual help to anyone who finds numbers tricky. |

| Understanding a Knitting Pattern |

| Knitting patterns give a lot of information but they often assume that you know a lot too, which can be daunting for the novice knitter. In this workshop you will knit a small garter stitch jacket suitable for a baby or soft toy, taking you step-by-step through the knitting pattern and de-coding the jargon and abbreviations. Take home a pattern for an adult stocking stitch sweater as your next project. |

| Claire has also made herself available for a knitting surgery to be held on Saturday, 25 August from 10.30 – 3.30pm at Spin A Yarn. She has suggested that it would be a good time to answer individual questions about knitting patterns, for demonstrating techniques such as knitting with 4 needles, basic knitting techniques or any other queries or problems that customers have encountered. This is a free service for all our customers.

| Needle-punch Felting - Fanciful Faerie Folk |

| At this workshop you will be able to make fanciful faerie folk, (or goblins, or just see what sort of a character emerges!) You will learn basic Needlepunch techniques: how to wind sheeps' fleece (with or without pipe-cleaners) into the form of a figure (say 6" high); adding fine detail with a barbed needle. You can then leave it "wispy"(making several small ones for a mobile perhaps), or give it a warm, soapy massage and make a cuddly toy which will survive rough play! You will also take home many ideas for more needle-felt. |

| "You'll Get Hooked" |

| Teacher Carol Timms, explains, �Introducing �Dry Needlepunch Sculpture�. Ten years ago, a friend presented me with a couple of barbed needles and some basic instructions for sculpting fine-featured dolls from sheep�s fleece. I was immediately hooked! I went on to sculpt dogs, horses, bears, donkeys, finding that each figure seemed to take on a character of its own. Many needles and workshops later I�ve discovered that there is no limit to this versatile type of feltmaking. The needles are cheap and various types of fleece may be used�..this is a useful addition to your toolbox for repair work and fine detail in your wall-hangings. Come and experiment!� |

| Nuno Feltmaking Workshop |

| Teacher, Carol Timms, an experienced and inspirational feltmaker explains, “Nuno is the art of combining fleece and fabric. We shall begin by incorporating merino fleece with silk or cotton chiffon (You might like to bring your own piece of either of these, dyed yourself if you wish. Otherwise white fabric will be provided.) You may then choose to experiment further:trapping scraps of lace or knitting (hand or machine, natural yarns work best) into fleece, rubbing and rolling until you have a new fabric robust enough for a small scarf, blind, fingerless gloves….You will invent new possibilities. Bring any scraps of lace, yarn or knitting you might like to play with, or just bring yourself". |
