Rowan is an English yarn manufacturer based in Holmfirth, Yorkshire. It has been recognised for many years for supplying fine yarn for knitting & crocheting, as well as producing wonderful pattern books featuring well known designers, such as Kaffe Fassett, Kim Hargreaves and Martin Storey. Each year 2 new pattern books featuring 35 patterns and interesting articles about designers, new wool sources and about new directions in knitting are published. It also produces smaller books featuring particular types of wool such as Big Wool & Country. Rowan Studio Books which are published every 2 monthys are also available. These small pattern books showcase new patterns at the cutting edge of fashion.

Purelife British Sheep Breeds
NEW shade autumn/winter 2009: Shetland Morit - a lovely earthy brown. As an annually renewable natural resource, our British wool is shorn and blended from British sheep and spun into beautiful undyed yarn. The four British sheep types featured are: Black Welsh, Jacob, Bluefaced Leicester and Suffolk.
Black Welsh is a hardy sheep. It produces short, thick and firm to handle fleece, which is durable, light weight and warm.
Jacob sheep are believed to originate from Mesopotamia in Biblical times. The fleece produces naturally blended shades of brown and creamy white.
Bluefaced Leicester produces fairly fine, dense, demi-lustrious, soft to the touch wool that drapes well and feels comfortable next to the skin.
Suffolk sheep are widely spread through out the UK. The fleece is moderately short with fine fibres.
